Outstanding result reported for second Australian Elite Genetic Merit Sale
The Genetics Australia Australian Elite Genetic Merit dairy cattle sale held at Lardner Park on Thursday October 1st 2009 was an outstanding success. The sale, the second of its kind in Australia, attracted around 200 farmers, breeders and vendors.
Chief Executive Dr. Ray Johnson said “The average price paid for a range of 31 calves and cows was $3,955, and for four lots of imported embryos was $10,663, for seven lots of local embryos $4,764 and for two flushes was $3,750, an outstanding result during these tough times in the Australia dairy industry”.

Share Dairy Farmer of the Year winners announced
Phillip and Julieanne Bond of Taroon, south-west of Terang in the Western District have won the 2009 Genetics Australia Share dairy farmer of the Year Award.
The competition, which has been run continually since 1979, is conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, with the assistance of the United Dairy Farmers of Victoria and the Victorian Agricultural Societies Association, and sponsored by Genetics Australia.
Phillip and Julieanne milk 400 Holsteins on a 60 stand rotary milking shed on their 220 hectare home farm owned by Julieanne’s parents, Niel and Liz, and have been sharefarming now for nine years.
Runners up in the competition were Mark and Narelle McDonald of Dederang and third place was won by Matthew and Joanne Broad from Cowwarr.

Women in Dairying Day at Poowong
Cathy McGowan , Project Coordinator, said the day was a "toe in the water approach" to identifying ways to help identify ways for women to get into leadership roles in the dairy industry. she said that part of her role was to submit a report to Government on this issue.
